Zephyr Theatre to rock Lowell Park with ‘School of Rock’

Stillwater Gazette - July 8, 2022 In Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “School of Rock,” a renegade substitute teacher turns a class of prep-school fifth-graders into rockers and sneaks them into the Battle of the Bands. When The Zephyr Theatre presents the rowdy musical in Lowell Park later this month, one of the kids in the band will bring impressive credentials to the professional production. Twin Cities actor Huxley Westemeier had a role in the national tour of the Broadway debut of “School of Rock” when he was 10. Now, he returns to the stage as Zach, a guitar-shredding rocker. He’ll be joined by 11 other early teens, many who have theatre experience at The Zephyr and/or Minneapolis-based Children’s Theatre Company.

Ice Palace MAZE opens and dragons are the welcoming committee

Stillwater Gazette - January 14, 2022 Ice dragons — more greeters than guardians — flank the entrance to 2022’s Ice Palace MAZE, the wintry outdoor attraction that opens Saturday at The Zephyr Theatre. The 10- to12-foot-tall ice sculptures were created on site by professional ice carvers from Minnesota Ice, the St. Paul-based company helping to build the palace. The mythical creatures, prominently placed in the front of the maze and surrounded by mini ice moats, set the tone for this year’s theme: dragons and castles.

Last year, The Zephyr’s huge Ice Palace MAZE attracted a huge crowd — more than 30,000 visitors. They came to wander through the maze, pose for pics in front of ice sculptures, zip down the ice slide, and huddle around fire pits to eat s’mores. At least one wedding proposal was made — and accepted — in the unique setting.
